By popular demand I have decided to share the dissertation I wrote for my BA (Hons) in Comparative Literature. I made a 42 minute video on my channel about the last week of the process and have mentioned it at various points though-out my last year, so audience curiosity is very understandable.
Roxana and Juliette: The Cost of a Woman’s Power
My dissertation centred on the titular characters of Daniel Defoe’s Roxana and The Marquise de Sade’s Juliette. It looked at the ways the pro/antagonists of these eighteenth century texts gained their power, what effected it and how they could acquire it, with reference mainly to marriage, mistresses and sex. And yes… my title page is absolutely NSFW.
I have added the entire 40 page document (with the redacted of personal information) as images below. These are not searchable texts, so as to guard against any possible plagiarism. I absolutely do not recommend, condone or endorse anyone quoting it for any reason: this is a bachelor dissertation, not a peer reviewed article. Due to the sensitive nature of the texts used reader discretion is advised. This essay was marked at a 2:1 (65).
